iGCSE
Full coverage of the Edexcel International GCSE Chemistry specification, delivered through structured booklets and live 1.5-hour sessions. For summer 2027 examinations (September – May: 3x weekly).
Booklet 1 – Principles of Chemistry
The foundation of the whole iGCSE course. This booklet covers states of matter, atomic structure, the Periodic Table, chemical calculations, and all three types of bonding — ionic, covalent and metallic — finishing with electrolysis. Everything in later booklets builds on the ideas covered here, so this is always the right place to start.
Booklet 2 – Inorganic Chemistry
Covers Groups 1 and 7 of the Periodic Table, the reactivity series, metal extraction, and the full range of acid, base and salt chemistry — including titrations and the standard chemical tests used to identify substances.
Booklet 3 – Physical Chemistry
The shortest of the four booklets, covering energetics, rates of reaction, and reversible reactions and equilibria.
Booklet 4 – Organic Chemistry
The largest booklet in the series, covering everything from crude oil and cracking through alkanes and alkenes to alcohols, carboxylic acids, esters and synthetic polymers.
iAS
The first half of the course, building the essential foundation: how atoms bond, why reactions release or absorb energy, the reactivity of key element groups, and an introduction to organic chemistry through alkanes, alkenes, alcohols and halogenoalkanes. IAS can be taken as a standalone qualification, or count as 50% of the full IAL.
Unit 1 — Structure, Bonding and Introduction to Organic Chemistry
The first booklet in the A-Level series, and the compulsory starting point for Unit 1 (WCH11). Covers chemical calculations, atomic structure, the three types of bonding in full depth, and an introduction to organic mechanisms through alkanes and alkenes. This is more demanding than the iGCSE series, with real mechanism work included throughout. For January 2027 examinations (September – December: 3x weekly).
Unit 2 — Energetics, Group Chemistry, Halogenoalkanes and Alcohols
Covers energetics calculations, intermolecular forces, redox chemistry and Groups 1/2/7, an introduction to kinetics and equilibria, and the organic chemistry of halogenoalkanes and alcohols, including spectra interpretation. For summer 2027 examinations (February – May: 3x weekly).
Unit 3 — Practical Skills in Chemistry I
The compulsory practical-skills paper that completes the AS half of the course. Rather than introducing new content, this unit tests the experimental technique, data handling and evaluation skills built while studying Units 1 and 2 — from measuring gas volumes and finding solution concentrations through to interpreting experimental results and identifying sources of error. A focused, exam-technique-driven resource once Units 1 and 2 are in place, so every practical skill it draws on has already been properly taught. For summer 2027 examinations (May: 4x sessions)
